Forcedeth driver ubuntu

 · This problem with forcedeth module seem to affect all major Linux distributions. Year was the first time I reported this issue on a ubuntu bug tracking system. Just recently I have installed around 6 Linux distribution and in all of them my nVidia Corporation MCP55 Ethernet (rev a2) network card does not work and this includes latest Estimated Reading Time: 40 secs.  · Ubuntu must have the drivers for the sound/network hardware on the CD as when it was running in Live mode, they worked fine. sudo modprobe forcedeth. Ubuntu has dhclient. Not dhcpcd.  · Disabling forcedeth for good. The forcedeth driver gets loaded by default at boot time. We don't want that - we want the network adapter to use our new nvnet driver; let's do something about it, then! We have to create a configuration file in /etc/modprobe.d/: (if you're using Ubuntu) gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/nvnet (if you're using Kubuntu).

I only found archived threads regarding this kernel warning; "eth0: too many iterations (6) in nv_nic_irq." I'm recreating a thread about this warning, because the solution procedure has changed a little. On Ubuntu at least, this uses the forcedeth driver (originally a cleanroom implementation of a driver which competed with a proprietary offering from Nvidia – it now seems to have superceded that driver). I noticed while doing large network transfers to or from one of these machines that the load on the machine seemed to spike. Did the forcedeth driver work for you? if it loads ok you should be able to get on the net with it, if you use dhcp to configure your network once you have the driver loaded you will have to run either dhcpcd or dhclient (you will have to use sudo for both of those commands) (Also, once you have this up and going, it will be done at boot for you). if this works then you can either keep it, or just use it temporarily to download what you need with synaptic/apt-get and get the proprietary.
